English Language Requirements for Skilled Migration

When applying for Skilled Migration, proving your English language proficiency is essential. The required level of English depends on the visa subclass you are applying for, with four proficiency levels relevant to migration pathways.

Levels of English Proficiency

  1. Superior English
    • GSM Points Test: 20 points
  2. Proficient English
    • GSM Points Test: 10 points
  3. Competent English
    • Requirement: Threshold for General Skilled Migration (GSM), Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS), and Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS).
  4. Vocational English
    • Previously Important For: General Skilled Migration and Employer-Sponsored Visas.
  5. Functional English
    • Purpose: Allows secondary applicants to avoid paying the English Language Charge.

Approved English Tests

Several English language tests are accepted for Skilled Migration:

  • PTE: Pearson Test of English (Academic).
